Licenses for Adaptations

The CC Adapter's License Chart shown below shows which license may be applicable based on the license of the material undergoing adaptation. The final license applies only to your own contributions to the adaptation and does not change licenses for the underlying material.

To use the chart, find the license of the underlying material in the left column. Then, the license that may be applied to the adaption is indicated in the green boxes. The gray boxes indicate a license that cannot be applied to the adapted work, based on the license of the underlying work. If the box is yellow the license is permitted but not advisable unless care is taken to mark the adaptation clearly indicating that the final work has multiple underlying licenses; downstream users will need to know this to know how they can use the material.[1]
