Preparation

Understand our information infrastructure:

  • The library pays for or provides access to databases relevant for researching topics in chemistry. Do the Chemistry Literature tutorial to understand SciFinder, the database for chemistry literature.
  • Use links to databases from the library's web site (or this guide!) only. This ensures that the database provider knows you are from Knox College and will then connect you with appropriate services such as linked full text and interlibrary loan options.
  • The library's interlibrary loan system will allow you to get most journal articles in 24 hours or less.

Two Ways to Find Chemistry Articles

For quick searching, try the ACS (American Chemical Society) Publications site. Search by keywords or by journal citation:

SciFinder is the premier database for chemistry literature. Use the tabs on this guide to learn about searching SciFinder.

Note: SciFinder requires you to register and create a username and password. You'll need this username/password to log in each time you use SciFinder.

  1. Go to User Registration for SciFinder. You must use your Knox email.
  2. You will receive an email confirmation with a login ID for future use.
  3. After registration,  go to SciFinder  and login
