The challenge for research in Environmental Studies is that there is no single database that effectively covers the literature for all potential topics in Environmental Studies in sufficient depth. Use several databases to discover resources that relate to your topic.

Many of the databases listed on these pages cover a variety of publication types: books, journal articles, news & magazine articles, government reports & documents (international, federal, state), and unpublished research reports.

The items with a star in each section are the best databases to search.

General Databases

Academic Search Complete is a large database of mostly scholarly material. Some general interest magazines are covered as well. There is a good amount of full text in the database.

 GreenFILE  Offers information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more.

JSTOR has a core collection of scholarly journals in ecology and botany in addition to journals in other academic fields. JSTOR has full text content.

Nexis Uni is good for news, business and economics related topics, and for legal research.

Science.gov searches for authoritative U.S. Government science information, including research and development results, from over 42 databases and over 2000 selected websites from 14 federal agencies.
