Conspiracy theories position secret and powerful or influential parties as responsible for a panic, phenomenon, and/or event (Oxford Languages). “Conspiracy theories are not supported by evidence that withstands scrutiny but this doesn’t stop them from blossoming” (Lewandowsky & Cook, 2020, p. 3).
