Article Databases for An/So

Databases are resources that provide citations and abstracts of journal articles and other scholarly materials. The listing below represents the subject-specific and general databases most relevant to Anthropology & Sociology available at Knox.

Depending on your topic, you may consider searching other subject-specific databases as well. To find other databases, use the library's A-Z Database list and filter by the Anthropology & Sociology subject. You can also filter the database list by type of material.

A comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary, full-text database, with more than 8,500 full-text periodicals, plus indexing and abstracts for more than 12,500 journals.

SocINDEX This link opens in a new window
A comprehensive sociology research database with over 2 million records containing informative abstracts for more than 1,200 "core" coverage journals dating as far back as 1895.
JSTOR This link opens in a new window
JSTOR is a searchable and browsable database which contains the full-text back issues of many scholarly journals in Anthropology and Sociology.

This multidisciplinary database contains full text to many journals in the social sciences.
National Criminal Justice Reference Service Abstracts This link opens in a new window
The NCJRS Abstracts Database contains summaries of the more than 220,000 criminal justice, juvenile justice, and substance abuse resources housed in the NCJRS Library collection.

Google Scholar
Google scholar can be a good, if idiosyncratic, way to find academic resources. It is especially useful for advanced anthropology research as a complement to Academic Search Complete and SocIndex.

If you are using Google Scholar to search for anthropological resources, be sure to include terms such as "ethnog*" or "anthropol*" to help narrow your search to mostly anthropological literature.
