Citing Sources

This How-To Guide provides resources and guidance on how to properly cite your sources according to a variety of citation styles.

The 17th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style is the preferred style guide for  student papers in History at Knox (notes-bibliography format for references). This style manual also has a wealth of information about preparing a paper or manuscript.

The Chicago Manual of Style Online is the full text available online of the printed book; the Citation Quick Guide to citation is also very useful as a starting point.

The 17th edition of the book is also available in Seymour Library, call number: Reference Z253 U69 2017.

Citing Generative AI in Chicago Style

Section 14.112 of the Chicago Manual of Style details considerations for citing AI generated content and provides some examples. 

The "Turabian" style guide is based upon The Chicago Manual of Style, and is often easier to use than the Chicago style manual.
