Renewing Materials

Items are Automatically Renewed (in most cases)

In most cases, your Knox and I-Share items will be automatically renewed until they reach the end of their maximum loan period.

Three days before the item’s due date, the system will automatically attempt a renewal. If the automatic renewal is successful:

  • The due date is extended.
  • You will receive an email notifying you of your item’s new due date.

If the automatic renewal is not successful:

  • The due date does not change.
  • You will receive an email reminding you that your item must be returned within 3 days, or it will become overdue.

If an automatic renewal is not successful, it is usually because the item has reached the end of its max loan period. If you believe your item is not renewing itself properly, please reach out to us at illoan@knox.edu or reference@knox.edu.

How to Renew an I-Share Item

You may renew items through your library account. Please note that when you attempt to renew items the renewals are not always automatic. Check the messages given for the new date(s) and for any other information indicating the renewal attempt was not successful. To renew:

1. Sign into Knox Primo and click on your name in the upper right to display a menu. Select "My Loans."

2. In the left column, click on the filter "Has Activity":

3. Click on the name of an institution to view the items you have checked out from the institution.

4. Click on RENEW next to an item.

Note: to see the maximum renewal date for an item find the item in the list of items you have checked out in your library account.
