Get a Permalink Whenever Possible
When you find an article or book chapter in one of the library's subscription resources and you want to provide that link to students, do not simply copy the address from the browser's address bar. Instead, look for the permanent (sometimes called "durable" or "stable") link on the page.
In EBSCO database, after you click on the title of an article, look in the right column for Permalink:
In JSTOR, the use the remote access URL displayed below the publication information:
If the site does not offer a permanent link of any kind, and you want to be able to get to one of the Knox subscription resources there are other ways to do that.
Search Knox Primo for the item (book, streaming film, journal or magazine article). Use the "Articles and more" or "Everything..." search in Knox Primo. If the item is listed (and not every item will be discoverable this way) a link will be presented and when you click on it you will be asked to authenticate to gain access to the resource. In many cases this will be a direct link to the item, but in some instances, the link may take you to the site where you have to search for the item.
Note: You can copy the Permalink from Knox Primo and share it with other people from Knox.
If the site does not offer a permanent link of any kind you can build a permalink using the OpenAthens link generator.
First, find the best URL on the site--this might be a URL with the DOI in it, or it might be one from the address bar (any URL with a session ID in it is NOT a good URL).
Then, go to the OpenAthens link generator to create a URL that works with our authentication system. Enter the URL in the box. It will generate a good URL that you can copy and share with others at Knox. It looks like this:
