Research Graduate Schools

Peterson's Guide provides a directory of graduate and professional programs and also presents a wealth of advice articles that you may find useful. Peterson's does include a lot of advertising, so sometimes the page can get confusing.

Searching Peterson's:

The basic search feature on Peterson's (the big search box on the main page) is not very helpful, but you can try searching for keywords to see the results.

Use the Schools drop down menu, and then choose Search at the bottom.

Use the Left Side Navigation Bar to make choices :

  • Student Type: Graduate School
  • Schools and Programs : On Campus OR Online
  • Area of Study - start typing and get kicked into a list to choose from.  Note: If you want to look at more than one area put the 1st one in and 2nd box comes up to choose another.
  • Choose A Location - you can leave blank if flexible or add more than one.
  • Degree Type: Masters, Doctorate OR Certificate.
  • Tuition Range - Leave blank - with Grad school the sticker price is irrelevant - and what you pay will be customized. Peterson's is not a good source for this info and you shouldn't use it at the search stage.
  • Admission Difficulty - I would leave this blank for now too - look into this later once you've narrowed down programs.
  • GRE / GMAT - leave blank, not needed at this stage.
  • Setting - Do choose this if it is significant for you. Leave blank if not.

Results:  Use this primarily to identify schools with the type of program you want - you will use other tools to do the research. Do not rely on Peterson's for anything but the info on if the school has your program type.

Note: The order of search results in Peterson's is based on how much the school paid Peterson's, so make sure you go through the entire listing of results.
