Interlibrary Loan: Borrowing Materials From Other Libraries

Interlibrary Lending Policies


1. Requests

  1. The Knox College Library lends to any requesting institution submitting its request on appropriate interlibrary loan forms or through the OCLC-ILL subsystem. 
  2. Knox College does not charge a fee for lending. 

2. Non-Circulating Items

  1. Items in these collections cannot be loaned: Course Reserves, Current Interest Collection, Electronic Books, Honors Collection, Limited Editions, LP records, Maps, Books acquired in the last 4 months, Whole Periodicals, Reference, Special Collections, Online/Streaming Video, recent Computer Science books. 
  2. We do not fill copy requests for special collection items. To request copies from Special Collections and Archives, please contact them directly at specialcollections@knox.edu.

4. Loan Periods

  1. Books/microfilm are loaned for 30 days and can be renewed. Book/microfilm maximum loan period is 90 days. DVDs/music CDs are loaned for 21 days and can be renewed. DVD/CD maximum loan period is 42 days. We send invoices for replacement costs at 8 weeks overdue.
  2. Will lend overseas:  Fee charged to cover Express Mail costs. Books/microfilm are loaned for 30 days and can be renewed. Book/microfilm maximum loan period is 90 days. We do not lend DVDs outside of the US. We send invoices for replacement costs at 8 weeks overdue.
  3. PDFs of book chapters and journal articles are sent electronically.

5. Overdue & Damaged Material

  1. Overdue notices are sent on items that are not returned by the due date. Borrowing libraries may be billed for replacement cost of material that is extremely overdue.
  2. Borrowing libraries may be billed for replacement cost of material that is damaged.
