Sakura on the Prairie: Blossoming Connections Between Japan and Knox in the 20th Century

This digital exhibit constructed by Knox students is based on materials from the Knox College Special Collections and Archives portrays the relationship and impact between Knox College and Japan. Through the horrific events of WWII, the great 70s, and the dawn of the 21st century, the members of the Knox College community were closely mingling with the unique culture of Japan.

The Sacred Red Bridge at Nikko, also known as Mihashi Bridge, is 83 feet long and 18 feet wide lacquered in a bright red. Constructed in 1636 (destroyed and replaced in 1902).

From The Grace Ward 19th Century Photograph Collection.
