Databases for Discovering Journal Articles

You can efficiently search for journal articles on a topic using one or more of the databases in the following list. Some of these databases cover both peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed journals. See the tab above about peer-reviewed journals for help in determining if an online article is peer-reviewed or not.

Try searching more than one of these databases to discover the best resources for your topic.

GeoRef -- A comprehensive index to geology and related geosciences journals, technical reports and conference papers.

GreenFILE -- A database of mostly peer reviewed journals on topics related to environmental studies.

America: History & Life and Historical Abstracts -- These two databases cover historical scholarship, including archaeology. The America: History  & Life database covers North American history and archaeology and Historical Abstracts covers the history and archaeology of the rest of the world.

ATLA Religion -- This database covers religion and theology for all the world's religions. It will be particularly useful for identifying sources related to the archaeology of the Middle East.

Web of Science -- An index of over 11,000 high quality journals in the sciences, social sciences and humanities; the journals covered are peer-reviewed journals. There is no full text in this database; you can obtain articles not available in the Knox Library by using our interlibrary loan service.

Academic Search Complete is a large database of mostly scholarly material. Some general interest magazines are covered as well. There is a good amount of full text in the database.
