Biographical Notes

Amelia L. Carey((1848-[1869])) came from Princeton, Illinois, to attend the Knox Female Seminary from 1866-1867.

Scope notes

The collection contains fourteen letters (transcripts; location of originals unknown.) which were written by Amelia Carey to her parents and "home" in 1866-1867 while she attended the Knox Female Seminary. They include references to her academic and social life and to various faculty members: Professors George Churchill, Henry Hitchcock, Edward Beecher , Milton Comstock, and Miss Lydia Howard. The collection also includes an unpublished family history of the Carey and Crawford families compiled in 1940s.
