Wallace Campbell McCanon Papers

Biographical Notes: Wallace Campbell McCanon (1836-1928) was born in New York and received his early education there. He later went to school in Ohio and emigrated to Iowa. There he married in 1859 and there his seven children were born. WCM received a medical degree in 1880 and practiced medicine in Iowa, Alabama and Missouri. He worked later in his life as a storekeeper, a minister and a bookbinder. He died at the home of his son in Florida in 1928.

Scope Notes: Diary describes life in western New York state in 1850s; travels in the area on train and canal boat, and finally a move to Ohio. Additional folders of material regarding genealogical information added on 9 January 2003.
