Biographical Notes: James E. Dunlevey (1932- 1964) graduated from Knox College in 1954, went on to law school at the University of Nebraska (Lincoln). He practiced law in Nebraska and served as the State Court Administrator there; also as the administrator of the U.S. Court of Appeals in Pasadena, California. At Knox College JED was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Delta Chapter at Knox College. During the fall of 1952 an attempt was made at Knox College to pledge a black student to the local chapter.
Scope Notes: Documents in this collection are general items related to TKE chapter business and documents from the national and local chapter related to pledging a black student. The man was invited to join, but chose another Knox College fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa. Significant in this collection is the national fraternity’s assessment and the reminiscences of that event by JED.
