After her children were raised, Claire Snider Smith (1908-1998) came to Knox College as a non-traditional student and learned to be a printmaker. She graduated in 1973, packed her bags and went to France. She studied viscosity printmaking with Dadi Wirz and S.W. Hayter. Her collection includes the works of friends and fellow artists, as well as eighty of her own prints.
