Biographical Notes: Verla Z. Deatherage (1900 -1998) was born in Rio, Knox County, Illinois, and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1918. She taught in country schools in Knox County as well as in Galesburg. In 1924 she married Raymond Guy (1893-1975) and in the next year began nurse's training at Cottage Hospital. She transferred to the American Hospital in Chicago and later to Cook County Hospital, graduating in 1928 from the Illinois Training School for Nurses (Chicago). During WWII V.Guy worked in St. Louis as a pediatric nursing supervisor and afterward in Burlington, Iowa, and in Galesburg hospitals. In her later years she was active in the Knox County Genealogical Society, the D.A.R. (Rebecca Parke Chapter) and served as a trustee of Hope Cemetery
Scope Notes: The collection is made up of research material and notes gathered by Verla Guy, some related to families in Knox County, particularly, Rio, IL. The material is essentially in its original order and includes genealogical information related principally to the Deatherage and Easley families. Other allied lines are Hendricks, Carter, Hinton, Howard, Troth and others.
